The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has announced a high rip current risk that is now in effect and will continue through Friday afternoon. This warning affects the beaches of Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida. Alongside the risk of dangerous rip currents, a coastal flood advisory is in effect from 4 AM Wednesday to 4 PM Friday during high tide periods.

The areas under this advisory include Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Flagler, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden. Residents should anticipate minor coastal flooding which may lead to isolated road closures. The impacts of the flooding could extend to lots, parks, and roads, emphasizing the need for caution, especially in flood-prone properties.

In precautionary measures, it is essential for those traveling to factor in additional time as certain roads could be closed. Individuals are strongly advised against driving through unknown water depths or around barricades. For those near water, swimming should only occur near designated lifeguards, as rip currents are capable of sweeping even strong swimmers out into deeper waters.

If caught in a rip current, the advice remains to float and relax rather than attempt to swim against the current. Swimmers should try to move in a direction parallel to the shore, and if unable to escape, they should face the shore while calling or waving for help.
