President Donald Trump has reversed his stance on the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, now encouraging House Republicans to vote for their disclosure this week. Concurrently, the United States is intensifying its pressure campaign on Venezuela, with plans to designate a Venezuelan cartel as a foreign terrorist organization and a significant naval deployment to the Caribbean.

Epstein Files: Trump Reversal and House Vote

President Trump’s call for the release of additional Epstein files marks a significant shift in his position, coming as momentum builds in Congress for such an effort. The House of Representatives is expected to vote this week on a discharge petition aimed at compelling the Justice Department to release all relevant documents.

Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky expressed optimism over the weekend, anticipating that 100 or more GOP House members could support the initiative. This push follows the recent release of thousands of new Epstein emails by a House Oversight Committee, some of which reportedly mention President Trump.

The issue has also reportedly fueled a rift between President Trump and Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former staunch ally. Greene, who is among several Republicans advocating for the release of the documents, told CNN that the dispute “has all come down to the Epstein files.”

Escalating Tensions with Venezuela

The United States is preparing to designate the Venezuelan cartel known as Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced yesterday that this designation, which the U.S. alleges is led by President Nicolás Maduro and other high-ranking officials, will become effective on November 24.

President Trump suggested that this designation could provide the military with authorization to target Maduro’s assets and infrastructure within Venezuela. He also indicated the possibility of future talks with the Venezuelan leader.

Further underscoring the heightened tensions, the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group has entered the Caribbean Sea. According to the U.S. Navy, the world’s most advanced carrier joins existing U.S. forces in the region as part of the Trump administration’s strategy to “defeat and dismantle criminal networks.” The deployment, ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, places the strike group at the center of a military buildup that has included deadly strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats, prompting condemnation from Maduro and warnings from other regional leaders regarding potential destabilization.

President Trump’s Upcoming Engagements

Today, President Trump is scheduled to meet with the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup at 2 p.m. ET. Later in the evening, he is slated to deliver remarks at 6 p.m. ET to the McDonald’s Impact Summit in Washington, DC.

Looking ahead, President Trump is also planning to host Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House tomorrow, with the meeting expected to carry the trappings of a state visit.

Key Developments

The coming days will be critical as the House proceeds with a vote on the Epstein files, a decision influenced by President Trump’s unexpected endorsement. Simultaneously, the U.S. is formalizing its designation of a Venezuelan cartel as a terrorist organization, a move that could significantly alter the dynamics of the Trump administration’s pressure campaign against President Maduro.
