Two people, a 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, were killed in a three-vehicle collision in Trotwood, Ohio, on Wednesday morning. The incident, which occurred around 8:11 a.m., also resulted in serious injuries to several others and is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Details of the Incident
The crash took place on East Main Street near the intersection of State Route 49 in Montgomery County. According to the preliminary investigation by the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Kodiaz Williams, 38, of Trotwood, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line.
The Suburban first struck a westbound 2015 Ford Taurus driven by Deona Ellison, 38, of Dayton. Following the initial impact, the Suburban was then hit by a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by Maniqua Metcalf, 38, also of Dayton. The force of the second collision sent the Equinox off the right side of the roadway.
Casualties and Injuries
Deona Ellison and one of her passengers, 17-year-old Te’Auna Ellison, were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Two other juvenile passengers in Ellison’s vehicle were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
The driver of the Suburban, Kodiaz Williams, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Equinox, Maniqua Metcalf, and her three passengers were not injured in the crash.
Ongoing Investigation
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Trotwood Police Department, Trotwood Fire & Rescue, Harrison Township Fire Department, New Lebanon Fire Department, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, and other local agencies. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Dayton Post.
