According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), 17-year-old Long was found deceased inside her home near Bailey, in Park County, on December 1, 2017. Investigators reported that the residence had been burglarized and subsequently set on fire. Officials noted that several specific items were stolen from the property during the incident, including firearms, ammunition, a safe, and jade figurines.
Detectives stated their belief that more than one individual was likely involved in Long’s death. The substantial financial reward is being funded through a collaboration between the Park County Sheriff’s Office, the victim’s family, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the CBI.
In a statement released Sunday, Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw urged the public to assist. “We believe someone knows something that could help solve this case and bring a measure of justice to Maggie’s family and the Bailey community,” McGraw said. “It could take just one person to help our investigation and we are determined to bring a resolution to one of Colorado’s most high-profile cold cases.”
