A Missouri man has been arrested and charged with sex trafficking and domestic assault after his girlfriend allegedly utilized the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT to engineer her escape from captivity. Jacquan Wilson, 37, was taken into custody in late September following a report filed by the victim at the Kansas City Airport.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by prosecutors, the victim met Wilson on Facebook several months prior and entered into a romantic relationship. Investigators allege that Wilson, who is involved in the escort business, coerced the woman into having sex with clients multiple times a day. The affidavit outlines a pattern of abuse between September 23 and September 26, during which Wilson allegedly punched the victim, kicked her in the ribs, and inflicted facial injuries.

Police reports indicate that the alleged abuse escalated to severe threats against both the woman and her child. Investigators stated that on one occasion, when the woman was late meeting a client, Wilson threatened via FaceTime to "chop off" her fingers. Additionally, the affidavit alleges Wilson brandished a knife and threatened to harm the woman’s one-year-old son, warning her to put the child to bed to avoid witnessing the violence.

The victim’s escape on September 26 was allegedly facilitated by a ruse created with generative AI. She told authorities she used ChatGPT to compose a fake email regarding a mandatory rental car return. This fabricated correspondence convinced Wilson to allow her to leave their hotel to visit a Hertz facility. Upon arriving at the airport rental center, she contacted law enforcement and family members. Investigators noted that the woman sustained bruising consistent with her account of the physical assaults.

Judicial Proceedings and Legal Status

Following his arrest, Wilson was charged with trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, promoting prostitution, armed criminal action, domestic assault, and child endangerment. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges as the case proceeds through the Missouri court system. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
