Camilla Diaz, 23, was taken into custody in Miami-Dade County on Friday following a domestic violence investigation, which subsequently led authorities to execute an outstanding warrant for an armed carjacking case originating in Broward County. According to corrections records, Diaz was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday night.

The felony warrant stems from an incident on September 18, 2024, in Hollywood, Florida. According to the police report, the victim, who had known Diaz since the ninth grade, believed he was picking her up in the Parkside neighborhood for a social encounter. Investigators state that the victim agreed to drive Diaz to a location near Plunkett Street and South 21st Avenue.

A Hollywood detective wrote in the arrest warrant that the victim exited his vehicle to assist Diaz with her belongings. At that moment, two armed men reportedly emerged from the bushes and hijacked the vehicle. The victim told police that he realized Diaz had “set him up” as the robbery unfolded. Following the incident, a Broward County judge issued an arrest warrant.

While Diaz was previously arrested and released on house arrest earlier in the year regarding the Broward case, she returned to police custody this week following new allegations in Miami-Dade. Police arrested Diaz on November 27 for battery after she allegedly attacked her mother in South Miami Heights. Although a judge ordered her to stay away from the victim, court records show she bonded out and subsequently violated the injunction, leading to her current detention.

Diaz appeared in court on Saturday in Miami-Dade County for the violation of the domestic violence injunction. Court records indicate her arraignment for the misdemeanor case is scheduled for January 20 before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Elisabeth Espinosa. Simultaneously, she is being held on a pre-trial release warrant issued by a Broward judge on December 2, which includes a hold without bail.

Procedural Next Steps

The simultaneous prosecution of charges across county lines presents specific logistical challenges for the courts. While Diaz faces misdemeanor proceedings in Miami-Dade under Judge Espinosa, the graver felony charges in Broward County under Circuit Judge Ernest Kollra Jr. will likely take precedence regarding long-term custody arrangements. Authorities confirmed that Diaz is currently awaiting extradition to Broward County to face the carjacking charges. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
