Executive Summary

  • FBI and IRS agents raided a Secret Service agent’s home in a fraud investigation.
  • The agent, assigned to the Vice President’s detail, allegedly ran a fraudulent charity.
  • Sources report the agent is on unpaid leave with a suspended security clearance.
  • Investigators are probing whether other agents used the charity for tax evasion.

Federal agents executed a raid on the home of a United States Secret Service agent earlier this month in connection with a joint investigation into alleged tax and wire fraud, according to a report by RealClearPolitics. The operation, conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), reportedly targets a scheme involving a charity organization founded by the agent.

The agent, who is reportedly a member of Vice President J.D. Vance’s security detail, allegedly solicited donations for a non-profit intended to assist domestic violence victims and provide technology to inner-city youth. However, RealClearPolitics reports that the charity failed to provide these services as claimed in filings with the IRS. Sources familiar with the matter stated the raid took place on or around December 8 following an investigation that has continued for over a year.

According to the report, the agent listed as the chairman and founder of the charity has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, and their security clearance has been suspended. The investigation has reportedly widened, with federal officials interviewing over a dozen Secret Service agents. Investigators are reportedly examining whether other agents contributed to the charity to receive partial kickbacks or to falsify work-related expense deductions.

Investigative Scope and Standards

This inquiry represents significant internal scrutiny regarding financial integrity and potential insider threats within the Secret Service. The allegations, described by sources as potentially larger in scope than the agency’s 2012 misconduct scandal, involve serious violations of federal tax and wire fraud statutes. As the FBI and IRS continue their review of financial records and personnel involvement, the focus remains on ensuring accountability within the protective service. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
