A carjacking investigation involving a firearm initiated a significant police response and pursuit across the northern edge of the Las Vegas valley on Thursday evening.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), officers responded to a report of a carjacking around 8:10 p.m. in the 7100 block of Grand Montecito Parkway, near Elkhorn Road and Durango Drive. Investigators stated that a group of individuals approached the victims, at which point one suspect brandished a gun and commandeered the victims’ vehicle.

Patrol officers located the stolen car shortly thereafter and initiated a pursuit. The suspects reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a residential property near Donna Street and Centennial Parkway. Police subsequently observed possible suspects entering a second vehicle, prompting officers to perform a felony traffic stop near Lamb Boulevard and Interstate 15. The operational response resulted in the temporary closure of Southbound Lamb Boulevard.
