GLASGOW, Ky. – Law enforcement officers arrested a male suspect on Sunday following a standoff in a commercial parking lot that required the deployment of less-than-lethal munitions to effect the apprehension.
According to Major Terry Flatt with the Glasgow Police Department (GPD), officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle situated in the Big Lots parking lot. Authorities identified the vehicle as one believed to be involved in a hit-and-run incident and a brief pursuit that had occurred earlier in the day.
Major Flatt stated that the suspect refused to comply with verbal commands from officers at the scene. In response to the non-compliance, officers fired "less than lethal rounds" into the vehicle’s window to resolve the standoff safely. Following the tactical intervention, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to T.J. Samson Regional Hospital for standard medical clearance.
Officials confirmed that upon release from the hospital, the individual will be lodged at the Barren County Detention Center. The identity and current condition of the suspect have not yet been released. The GPD was assisted at the scene by the Barren County Sheriff’s Department and Barren/Metcalfe EMS.
