Jake Harris of the Sioux Falls Police Department, detectives were dispatched to the Food and Fuel gas station at the intersection of Ninth Street and Kiwanis Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. The investigation was initiated after reports that three individuals had entered the business, stole a bottle of alcohol, and ran out of the building.
Sgt. Harris stated that a person from inside the establishment chased the suspects, who were fleeing eastbound on foot. During the pursuit, one of the individuals produced a firearm and shot the pursuer in the ankle. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects were described as being between 15 and 20 years old and wearing face coverings.
