According to Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Cleal of the Homicide Squad, a witness arrived at the home in the suburb of Spencer Park on Sunday afternoon and alerted neighbors after finding the scene. Police cordoned off the Burville Street property, located approximately 400 kilometers south of Perth, to facilitate a comprehensive investigation.
The 50-year-old man was found inside the home with life-threatening injuries. While he was initially arrested at the scene, police stated he was subsequently released to be airlifted to Perth for urgent medical care. He remains in an induced coma.
"We would very much like an opportunity to speak with him in the hope that he will assist the investigation," Detective Senior Sergeant Cleal told reporters on Friday. "But we haven’t had that chance yet and so at this stage he remains a suspect."
Investigators described the forensic examination as "exhaustive and thorough" due to the complexity of the case and the inability to question the primary person of interest. Detective Senior Sergeant Cleal emphasized that police are maintaining an "open mind" regarding the involvement of third parties and are exploring all options concerning the cause of the woman’s death.
Law enforcement officers have conducted canvassing operations, including doorknocks and letter drops within a 2-kilometer radius of the incident. Police are urging anyone with information or video footage from the weekend to contact Crime Stoppers.
