TAMPA, Fla. — Two suspects have been taken into custody following a multi-agency investigation into the fatal shooting of a teenager in December 2025, authorities announced on Saturday. The Tampa Police Department, working in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, arrested 24-year-old Patrick Latson in Tampa and 22-year-old Jordanis Castillo Durand in Houston, Texas, in connection with the homicide involving two 17-year-old victims.
According to police reports, officers responded to a shooting on East 114th Avenue just before midnight on December 19, 2025. Upon arrival, first responders discovered two teenage victims. One victim, identified as Adrian Aguila, died at the scene despite life-saving efforts. The second victim survived a gunshot wound to the leg and a head injury sustained during a physical assault; he was treated at a nearby hospital and released.
Crime scene investigators recovered shell casings and an AK-style rifle magazine from beneath a 2013 Honda Civic associated with the victims. A search of the vehicle revealed additional spent casings and narcotics. Law enforcement officials stated that preliminary information suggests the victims were lured to the location for a narcotics transaction, which escalated into an attempted robbery and the subsequent fatal shooting.
Detectives traced a black Hyundai sedan seen fleeing the scene to a residential lot at Pelican Sun Estates on North Nebraska Avenue. Evidence and witness statements facilitated the identification of Latson and Durand. Authorities located Latson last month at a property on East 29th Avenue. When approached by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Latson attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. He has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and resisting an officer without violence.
Through continued investigation, detectives determined that Durand had fled Florida. Tampa Police contacted the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, who located Durand hiding in a vacant apartment in Houston, Texas. Durand was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and armed robbery. He remains in detention in Houston pending extradition to Tampa.
It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Cross-Jurisdictional Enforcement
The successful apprehension of a suspect in Texas highlights the operational necessity of federal partnerships in resolving local violent crimes that cross state lines. By leveraging the U.S. Marshals Service, local agencies can effectively extend their jurisdictional reach, preventing suspects from evading prosecution through flight. The focus of the case will now likely shift to the extradition proceedings and the consolidation of forensic evidence, including ballistics and vehicle data, to substantiate the first-degree murder charges in court.
