Metropolitan Police have launched an intensive manhunt for convicted robber Daniel Boakye, 21, who escaped from lawful custody at Lewisham Hospital on Sunday, marking his second escape from authorities in a single week.
According to Scotland Yard, Boakye, who performs as a drill rapper under the alias “DSAVV,” absconded at approximately 3:05 p.m. on February 15 while under police guard. Officers reportedly gave chase immediately but were unable to detain him as he fled the area. This incident follows a previous escape from West Middlesex University Hospital on February 10, after which he was recaptured by Metropolitan Police officers the following day.
Investigators have released new CCTV images showing the fugitive on a bus, wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket. Authorities noted that Boakye has continued to post on social media while on the run. In a video uploaded to Instagram on Saturday, he appeared to mock law enforcement, rapping the line “Catch me if you can” and posing with what appeared to be cannabis. In the footage, he referenced the character “Modie” from the Netflix series Top Boy and disparaged the police.
Court records indicate that Boakye was sentenced to six years and five months in prison in 2023. He was part of a criminal gang that held victims at knifepoint to obtain phone passcodes, facilitating the theft of £115,000 in cryptocurrency. The Home Office has confirmed that his deportation to Ghana is being “actively pursued.” Boakye is also understood to have links to the “Original Farm Boys” (OFB) gang based in Tottenham.
It is important to note that while Boakye has prior convictions, regarding any new charges related to his escape, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Investigative Outlook
The repeated escape of a prisoner from hospital custody within a seven-day period raises significant procedural questions regarding the security protocols employed during the medical transport of inmates in London. While the fugitive’s active use of social media demonstrates a brazen disregard for law enforcement, it also provides investigators with potential digital intelligence. Police operations are likely to focus heavily on the Enfield and Tottenham areas as authorities attempt to locate him before he can evade the jurisdiction completely.
