CONROE, Texas — A 43-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle collision on FM 1488 shortly after attempting to flee a traffic stop, according to the Conroe Police Department.

The incident began at approximately 11:20 a.m. when a Conroe police officer, conducting radar enforcement in the 1300 block of FM 1488, observed a motorcycle traveling eastbound well above the posted 50 mph speed limit. According to the police report, when the officer attempted to intervene, the rider accelerated and began weaving through traffic to evade the patrol unit.

Authorities state that the motorcyclist, identified as John Malik of Spring, Texas, disregarded a red light at the intersection of Peoples Road. The pursuing officer reportedly lost sight of the vehicle briefly before discovering a crash scene at the intersection of FM 1488 and Mansions Boulevard.

An initial investigation by the Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit indicates that Malik attempted to bypass vehicles stopped at a red light by utilizing the middle turn lane. Investigators noted that the motorcycle struck the center median at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control and be ejected. Both the rider and the motorcycle skidded across the intersection, impacting two other vehicles.

Medical personnel from the Conroe Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene, but Malik succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Police confirmed that no occupants of the other vehicles involved in the collision were injured.

Investigative Outlook

The Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit is continuing its technical analysis of the crash site to formally document the sequence of events. While the preliminary findings attribute the fatality to the driver’s loss of control during an evasion attempt, the investigation remains active. It is important to note that all individuals described in police reports are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
