CINCINNATI – Federal agents investigating the disappearance of an Ohio teenager have arrested a New York man who allegedly had previous in-person interactions with the girl. The FBI took Kyle Lawrence, 43, of Buffalo, New York, into custody on Thursday, February 26, nearly two weeks after 16-year-old Madison Fields was reported missing from her home in Colerain Township, Ohio.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Lawrence has been charged in a federal criminal complaint with transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and transportation of child pornography. While Lawrence has not been directly charged with Fields’ disappearance, Colerain Township police indicated that he is accused of previously meeting with the teenager in January.
Court documents reveal that during the investigation into Fields’ whereabouts, officers discovered that the teenager had stayed with Lawrence at a Cincinnati hotel on January 31, approximately two weeks before she was last seen. Federal prosecutors stated that surveillance footage from the girl’s residence showed her entering a vehicle with New York license plates prior to that hotel stay. Investigators allege the vehicle was rented by Lawrence.
Following his arrest, Lawrence allegedly acknowledged communicating with the minor via Snapchat and traveling to the Cincinnati area twice in January to meet her. An affidavit filed by an FBI special agent notes that Lawrence admitted to using the location services on the Snapchat application to locate the victim for pick-up. Additionally, when agents executed a search warrant at Lawrence’s Buffalo residence, they seized electronic devices that prosecutors allege contained child sexual abuse material.
Prosecutors further noted that Lawrence had previously come to the attention of law enforcement in May 2024. A "citizen vigilante group" in Canada reportedly confronted him after he allegedly traveled there to meet a 15-year-old girl. Fields was last seen on February 13 around 4 p.m. on Harry Lee Lane. Police state she was wearing a black Champion sweatshirt, camouflage pants, and black shoes, carrying a black backpack and a white grocery bag. Authorities report that she asked to stay at a friend’s house but never returned home, and calls to her phone went to voicemail.
