According to the Service Employees International Union, the workers are demanding an end to what they describe as poverty wages and a call for greater respect at their jobs during this pivotal travel season. The union highlighted that while these workers play a critical role in maintaining airport operations, they often live paycheck to paycheck, with wages ranging from $12.50 to $19 an hour. This falls short of the living wage threshold for a single individual in the Charlotte area.
