This year, Thanksgiving travelers can breathe a sigh of relief as no major storms are anticipated across the country. However, certain weather conditions may still cause disruptions for some.

On the days leading up to Thanksgiving, the weather might pose some issues, particularly around Colorado’s mountain regions where snow is expected to persist. Additionally, light rain and a few thunderstorms could affect areas in the mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and Mid-South region on Wednesday night. This may extend into the East, with potential light snow in the southern Great Lakes and interior Northeast.

Thanksgiving Day itself will see accumulating snow mainly in the higher elevations from West Virginia to Pennsylvania, upstate New York, and northern New England. Lake-effect snow is anticipated in Michigan, while the Southeast could experience isolated showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the morning. Travelers in New York City and Atlanta may confront airport delays due to low clouds and rain.

Looking beyond Thanksgiving, Friday’s forecast predicts heavy lake-effect snow in parts of the Great Lakes, stretching from Upper Michigan to western and upstate New York, which could cause major travel disruptions. However, the rest of the Midwest is expected to have brisk cold winds, and Florida might encounter showers with possible thunder ahead of a cold front.

Saturday continues the trend of heavy snow for the Great Lakes region, posing risks for significant travel problems once again. The Central Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley might see light to moderate snow, leading to slippery roads. By Sunday, the snow in these regions is expected to persist, potentially leading to continued travel challenges.

For air travelers, potential delays could occur in Denver due to light snow, and in Chicago with low clouds and drizzle. However, no significant delays are expected at major airports beyond those areas.

Travelers should remain vigilant of weather updates, as pockets of poor conditions could affect their journeys. It’s advisable to stay informed by checking local forecasts regularly.
