Scheduled for today, SpaceX is set to launch a SiriusXM communication satellite into orbit from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
SpaceX plans to launch a geostationary satellite for SiriusXM, known as SXM-9, during a 90-minute window beginning at 11:10 a.m. EST. The Falcon 9 rocket will lift off from pad 39A, aiming to deploy the satellite, which was crafted by Maxar Technologies. The SXM-9 satellite features a large, mesh reflector, nearly 10 meters wide, enabling SiriusXM to broadcast to receivers, even in moving vehicles.
The launch is expected to take place under nearly perfect weather conditions, as stated by the Space Force’s 45th Weather Squadron. They have set the probability of favorable conditions for launch at over 95%, with no significant meteorological issues anticipated.
Post-launch, the Falcon 9’s first-stage booster is scheduled to return and land on a SpaceX drone ship positioned in the Atlantic Ocean, hundreds of miles away from the launch site.
