In a commanding performance, the Miami Dolphins secured a decisive 34-19 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, marking their first consecutive wins since the 2023 season’s final weeks.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was instrumental in the Dolphins’ triumph, completing 28 of 36 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. His dynamic connection with tight end Jonnu Smith was a highlight, as Smith caught six passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, achieving a career milestone.
The Dolphins initiated the match with an impressive drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to Smith. Despite setbacks, including a penalty and sack, Miami capitalized on Raider penalties to complete the drive. The Dolphins’ defense, led by Zach Sieler, was equally formidable, forcing the Raiders to settle for a field goal, ending the first quarter with the Dolphins leading 7-3.
In the second quarter, Miami’s offense leaned on running back De’Von Achane after starter Raheem Mostert temporarily left the game due to injury. Achane stepped up, including a pivotal 24-yard pass to Jaylen Waddle which positioned the team for a field goal, extending the lead to 10-3. The Raiders responded with a field goal, closing the half at 10-6.
The third quarter saw the Dolphins’ methodical 97-yard drive, highlighted by key plays from Jaylen Waddle and Jonnu Smith. Tua Tagovailoa’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill expanded their lead. Although the Raiders reduced the gap with a touchdown, they failed to execute a two-point conversion, concluding the quarter 17-12.
In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins started their drive in good field position and quickly advanced, with De’Von Achane securing a short touchdown run. The Raiders answered with a touchdown but were ultimately outshined when Tagovailoa and Smith connected for a 57-yard scoring pass, solidifying the Dolphins’ advantage at 31-19.
Notably, the Dolphins did not punt throughout the game and scored a season-high 34 points, aided by a late 46-yard field goal from Jason Sanders following Jalen Ramsey’s interception. This win marked the Dolphins’ 500th regular-season victory, placing them in the distinguished group of 19 NFL teams to reach this landmark.
The Miami Dolphins’ victory over the Raiders is a testament to their improving form and strategic gameplay. As they prepare to face the New England Patriots, their recent performances offer a promising outlook for the remainder of the season.
