Tulane’s Darian Mensah Eyes Transfer Portal

Quarterback Darian Mensah, known for his remarkable debut with Tulane, has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. His agents, Noah Reisenfeld and Adie von Gontard, shared the news, marking a significant move as the winter transfer window kicks off.

Darian Mensah, a redshirt freshman, emerged as a prominent player during his first season as Tulane’s starting quarterback. Despite being a newcomer, Mensah has three more years of eligibility, making him an appealing option for many teams.

Mensah’s performance has been noteworthy. He threw for 2,723 yards, contributing to 23 total touchdowns while maintaining a low rate of six interceptions. His efforts spearheaded Tulane’s nine-win season and secured a spot in the American Athletic Conference championship game under Coach Jon Sumrall. Unfortunately, they lost to Army with a final score of 35-14 but are set to play against Florida in the upcoming Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on December 20.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds, Mensah led the AAC in yards per attempt and completion percentage. His 9.5 yards per attempt and a 65.9% completion rate highlight his efficiency on the field. Although Tulane experienced two consecutive losses against Memphis and Army, Mensah’s leadership prompted an impressive eight-game winning streak, elevating them to 18th in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Originally from San Luis Obispo, California, Mensah was a three-star recruit who redshirted his initial season. He earned his starting role over more experienced players like Oregon transfer Ty Thompson and Kai Horton. Mensah’s quick adaptation and success have made him a sought-after quarterback, likely to attract significant attention once the transfer portal opens.

As Darian Mensah prepares to explore new opportunities through the NCAA transfer portal, his successful season with Tulane positions him as a highly desirable candidate. Teams interested in bolstering their quarterback roster will undoubtedly consider Mensah’s potential as they enter the upcoming season.
