Joseph Voigt, a 23-year-old resident of Bartow, was apprehended by authorities in Orlando on Sunday morning following allegations of patricide and attempted matricide. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office detailed that Voigt fled to Orlando, taking the family vehicle with him.
Law enforcement officials were dispatched to Highland Blvd. late at night, where they encountered a tragic scene. A deceased male victim was discovered, and a female victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to a local medical facility for urgent care. These victims were identified as Voigt’s parents.
Joseph Voigt was subsequently detained at Orange County Jail, facing charges of first-degree murder for the death of his father, and attempted first-degree murder for the assault on his mother. His arrest follows a recent release on December 1st from incarceration and an earlier arrest in October for firing a firearm in a residential neighborhood.
