The New York Red Bulls have announced the signing of left back Omar Valencia from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate team, the New York Red Bulls II. This move secures Valencia’s position with the team through 2027, with an option to extend the contract until 2028.
At 20 years of age, Omar Valencia brings both youth and experience to the New York Red Bulls’ roster. During his time with the MLS NEXT Pro, Valencia made a notable impact by providing three assists across 20 games in the 2024 season. His on-field performance has not gone unnoticed, earning him his debut in Major League Soccer as a late substitute during a match against the New England Revolution in June.
Valencia’s talents extend beyond the domestic league. As a full-fledged international player for Panama, he has earned three senior caps. Most recently, he represented his national team, Los Caneleros, at the prestigious 2024 Copa América tournament, showcasing his ability to compete at a high level.
The Red Bulls’ decision to sign Valencia comes as part of their ongoing strategy to strengthen their lineup with promising young players. In the 2024 season, the team showed considerable ambition by reaching the MLS Cup final, although they were ultimately defeated by the LA Galaxy. This signing is perceived as a step toward bolstering the team’s defensive capabilities, crucial for competing at the top level of the league.
Omar Valencia’s addition to the New York Red Bulls reflects the team’s commitment to investing in young talent. With his international experience and proven track record in the MLS NEXT Pro, Valencia is poised to contribute significantly to the team’s future endeavors.
