On Monday, President Lula was admitted to a hospital in Brasília following complaints of a severe headache. Subsequent medical evaluations, including an MRI, identified an intracranial hemorrhage, prompting his transfer to the Sírio-Libanês hospital in São Paulo for further treatment.
The cause of the brain bleed has been attributed to a fall Lula experienced in his bathroom at the presidential residence in October, where he sustained a head injury. This incident necessitated a craniotomy to relieve the pressure caused by the bleed. During this procedure, a portion of the skull bone was temporarily removed and later replaced to facilitate the drainage of the bleed.
Lula’s doctors have indicated that he is currently under close observation in the intensive care unit and is doing well post-surgery. Furthermore, they confirmed that there were no complications during the procedure.
Following his fall on October 19, President Lula required five stitches and canceled a scheduled visit to Russia for the BRICS summit as advised by his doctors. Despite the setback, he resumed his presidential duties shortly thereafter. Lula, who assumed presidential office at the beginning of the year, had previously assured the public that his vigor was comparable to that of a much younger individual during the election campaign.
President Lula is reportedly recovering well, bringing relief to both his supporters and the nation. The experienced leader, known for his resilience, is expected to resume his full responsibilities upon health clearance.
