In a significant development, law enforcement officers in Florida have apprehended a suspect from New Jersey, linked to a homicide and attempted homicide case. This arrest was made by the Florida Highway Patrol in Haines City, highlighting the collaborative efforts of interstate law enforcement agencies.
Trooper Matthew Belen of the Florida Highway Patrol received a critical alert from the Tampa Bay Regional Communications Center. The alert indicated the presence of a black Ram pickup truck, associated with a shooting incident in New Jersey, moving east on Johnson Avenue and Power Line Road in Haines City.
Upon locating the vehicle, Trooper Belen activated his patrol car’s lights and sirens to signal the driver to pull over. The driver, identified as Edwin G. Facenda Suriel, complied with the order to exit the vehicle with his hands raised. He was subsequently instructed to lie on the ground with his hands behind his back.
Officers verified that Suriel had an active warrant from Camden County, New Jersey, for charges of homicide and attempted homicide. Despite questioning, Suriel refused to provide information about the warrant or the origin of the truck he was driving.
A search of the vehicle yielded no firearms or illegal substances; however, officers discovered two mobile phones and a total of $1,455 in cash. These items were seized as evidence and were transported to the Florida Highway Patrol station in Lakeland. Eventually, they will be handed over to Camden Metro Police Department.
Suriel was taken into custody and booked at the Polk County Jail. Interestingly, his wife was present in the vehicle during the time of the arrest but was released as there were no charges or warrants against her.
