The New York Red Bulls have made a strategic move by signing Adri Mehmeti, a promising young midfielder, through 2028, with a club option for 2029. This announcement marks a significant step in bolstering their squad with homegrown talent, reflecting the club’s commitment to nurturing their youth pipeline.
Adri Mehmeti, just 15 years old, has emerged as a rising star in the world of soccer. Joining the New York Red Bulls from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, New York Red Bulls II, Mehmeti has demonstrated notable skill and potential on the field. In 2024, he participated in 15 matches, starting in eight, and contributed to the team’s play despite recording one assist and no goals.
Sporting director Julian de Guzman highlighted Mehmeti’s development, stating, “Adri is an exceptional young midfielder that has shown great progress in his development with New York Red Bulls II this past season. He is a great person on and off the field and we are excited to add him to our roster.”
Mehmeti’s journey with the Red Bulls began in 2019 when he joined their academy. His talent became apparent when he played a key role in the 2023 U-15 Red Bulls Academy team, which won the U-15 MLS NEXT Cup. This performance not only underscored his capability but also paved the way for his inclusion in the national setup.
Internationally, Mehmeti has represented both the United States and Albania at the youth level. He made seven appearances for the US U-15 national team, where he scored one goal, showcasing his potential on an international stage.
Head coach Sandro Schwarz expressed faith in the young midfielder’s potential, stating, “Adri has shown good performances in his games with New York Red Bulls II as well as in training with the first team. He is a talented young player, and we cannot wait to help him continue his development with us.”
The New York Red Bulls’ decision to bring Mehmeti into their first team aligns with their broader objectives, as evidenced by their performance in the 2024 MLS Cup, where they reached the finals before being defeated by LA Galaxy. Their position as the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed highlights the competitive edge they maintain and their continuous investment in nurturing talent through their ranks.
This move to sign Adri Mehmeti reflects the New York Red Bulls’ focus on homegrown talent and their strategic efforts to strengthen their roster for the future. With his burgeoning talent and international experience, Mehmeti is poised to make a significant impact in the coming years.
