The University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights football team is experiencing significant changes as the NCAA transfer portal opens, accelerated by the departure of head coach Gus Malzahn to Florida State. This transition has prompted early access to the 30-day transfer window for current UCF players, paving the way for both outgoing and incoming talents.
The transfer portal opened for UCF players eight days ahead of the official date, allowing the team to strategize for future improvements following a challenging 4-8 season in the Big 12 Conference. With Scott Frost returning to lead the Knights, the team aims to address its shortcomings through strategic player additions.
Notable exits from UCF include Reece Adkins, a tight end who transferred from Eastern Kentucky but did not play for the Knights. Matthew Alexander, a defensive tackle, increased his playing time over three seasons and contributed 35 tackles this year.
