In an engaging exchange featured in XXL’s latest cover story, Sexyy Red and GloRilla tackled the claims that female rap artists are excessively sexual. GloRilla questioned, “So, a lot of people give female rappers a hard time, saying we’re too sexual or over the top with lyrics and video content. What do you think when you hear that?”
Sexyy Red, never one to mince words, came back assertively, “I think y’all some haters. And I think y’all don’t want y’all bi— to shine because y’all insecure. It ain’t a problem when y’all got your chest out and y’all little tiny di– print showing and all that with your drawls sagging and your stanky ass out, doo-doo stains. It’s not a problem when y’all do it, but when we do it … Y’all stealing our style. It’s better when we do it.”
GloRilla chimed in with a nod to the Finesse2Tymes song “Back End,” reciting, “It’s cool when they do it/ It’s a problem when I do it, f— ’em,” followed by a laugh, highlighting the double standards female rappers often face.
Their conversation extended beyond criticism as they imagined what a joint project might sound like. GloRilla mused it would be “Ratchet as f—,” predicting backlash from male listeners. However, Sexyy Red countered with optimism, believing the project would be well-received because they are “trench certified.”
