The real estate community is mourning the loss of Maurice J. “Moe” Veissi, a transformative leader and former president of Florida Realtors. Moe, who passed away at 78, was not only a respected figure in the real estate world but also a man deeply committed to community service and advocacy.
Moe Veissi, renowned for his passionate advocacy and leadership, played a pivotal role in the real estate industry, particularly during his tenure as the 2002 Florida Realtors President. He staunchly opposed a proposed sales tax on services, arguing it would escalate business costs for all Floridians. His dedication was acknowledged when he was awarded the prestigious ‘Realtor of the Year’ by Florida Realtors in 2003.
Throughout his 57-year career, Moe Veissi chaired numerous committees, demonstrating his willingness to tackle challenges head-on. He notably led fundraising for the Realtors Political Action Committee in 2008, securing an impressive $10.3 million amidst challenging market conditions. As the 2012 National Association of Realtors President, Moe emphasized the crucial role of real estate professionals, coining the mantra “Realtors are the heart of the deal.” His commitment extended to hosting “Mondays with Moe,” a podcast aimed at keeping members informed about political and legislative matters.
Moe’s life in Miami, where he resided since age two, reflected his deep pride and dedication to his community. He held leadership roles such as the 1981 president of the Realtor Association of Greater Miami and The Beaches, and served twice as economic development chairman for the City of Coral Gables. His philanthropic efforts included working with Habitat for Humanity, Camillus House for the Homeless, and founding the Silent Angels Charitable Foundation.
Moe’s family including his wife Matey and sons Mallory and Maurice Jr., remember him as a man who lived with grace and led with conviction. His son Maurice described him as a “man of the people,” who had a genuine love for the real estate profession, coaching, and his family, which was his ultimate passion.
Moe Veissi’s legacy is ingrained in the real estate industry and the many lives he touched through his leadership and service. His contributions will continue to resonate, inspiring future generations of real estate professionals. Condolences are extended to his family, who continue to honor his memory and values.
