An unfortunate incident in Lecanto, Florida, claimed the life of an Inverness man on Wednesday evening. This tragic event unfolded when the individual, assisting with the navigation of a large RV out of a local park, was hit by a passing vehicle.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 30-year-old man from Dunnellon was driving a Dodge pickup truck eastbound on State Road 44. During this time, the victim was positioned in the roadway, aiding the driver of an Allegro RV in maneuvering out of the RV park. The collision occurred near the intersection with North Maynard Avenue.
According to troopers, the pickup truck driver did not notice the man from Inverness, leading to the initial impact. The unfortunate series of events resulted in the pedestrian falling to the ground, where he was subsequently run over by the RV he was attempting to guide, driven by a 64-year-old man from Alabama.
Authorities confirmed the man tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Despite the severity of the situation, no additional injuries were reported, and both drivers remained at the location during the investigation.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers involved in vehicular operations in shared spaces, underscoring the importance of vigilance and communication among drivers and pedestrians.
