In a rapidly unfolding event on Wednesday, a stolen Amazon truck was recovered in Miami following a carjacking in Miami Shores. Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the incident.
The dramatic sequence began around 3:25 p.m. when an Amazon delivery driver was attacked while on duty in Miami Shores. The driver was making deliveries near 92nd Street and Northeast 10th Court when he was struck in the face and his truck was commandeered. This attack left the driver with minor injuries, but fortunately, no packages were reported stolen from the vehicle.
Witness Keily Chacon recounted the shocking scene, saying, “I was inside the beauty salon doing my manicure and then all of a sudden everybody started screaming.” Another witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, observed the immediate aftermath, noting that medical personnel provided aid to the driver, applying ice to his injuries.
The stolen vehicle was later located when Miami Police officers, responding to the incident, spotted the truck being driven in the vicinity of Northeast 2nd Avenue and 23rd Street. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Hassan Rkein, was apprehended at the scene, leading to the recovery of the truck and its contents.
Rkein now faces charges including carjacking, and authorities have indicated that further charges might be forthcoming. The quick response of the police and the subsequent arrest were commended by a spokesperson who expressed relief that the delivery driver was not seriously harmed and that no packages were lost.
