In a significant development, the Broward Sheriff’s Office has revealed the apprehension of two suspects linked to a harrowing double homicide that took place in June, involving a mother and her 4-year-old daughter.
Antoine Harris, aged 28, was arrested in Miami Gardens on December 20, while Jaquan Thomas, 29, is currently incarcerated in Georgia and will be extradited to Broward County. Both men face two counts of first-degree murder related to the deaths of Beatrice Saintvil and her daughter, Janelle Souffrant.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of June 7, just after 11 p.m. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers responded to gunfire reports on the northbound Florida Turnpike, near Mile Marker 49, and discovered the victims in a parked vehicle on the left breakdown lane. Saintvil had sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she subsequently passed away, while her daughter, Souffrant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following FHP’s request, the Broward Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation. Through persistent efforts over subsequent months, the detectives successfully identified Harris and Thomas as the primary suspects. This determination was bolstered by a significant reward of $20,000 for information leading to an arrest, with half of the amount provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The arrests signal a critical step forward in seeking justice for the victims and providing closure to their families. As the legal process unfolds, the community remains focused on the implications of this case, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to ensure safety and justice.
