In the latest update of high school soccer standings, various teams have shifted positions due to their performance in recent matches. As of December 19, the Varsity 4 Super 6 rankings present notable movements within the top contenders.
The current ranking system releases results every Friday through the regular season, bypassing only the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Presently, the undisputed leader continues to be Mandarin with a record of 8-0-2 in Class 6A. Leading the Mustangs’ charge is a cohort of players: Daniel Moreno, David Garcia, Robert Calazans, Omar Trto, Artur DeFreitas, and Emir Trto, who have collectively amassed a striking 44 goals. Moreno alone added two more goals in the latest triumph over Bartram Trail.
Creekside holds its ground at position two, boasting a robust 9-1-2 record in Class 7A. Their latest games culminated in triumphs against Nease (2-1) and Atlantic Coast (1-0). Key contributors to Creekside’s success are Eric Camero, Javier Aponte, and Michael Donahue, sharing a total of 18 goals. Despite a single loss to Spruce Creek, the Knights managed draws with both Mandarin and Fleming Island, consolidating their rank.
Bartram Trail has climbed to position three with a 7-2-3 standing in Class 6A. Recent outcomes reveal a mixed bag, including a narrow 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Ocoee, a 2-2 tie with New Smyrna Beach, and a 2-1 defeat by top-ranked Mandarin. As a result, Michael Russell and Brady Bless have netted a combined 20 goals, showcasing their offensive talents.
Fleming Island’s consistent performance secures them at fourth, posting an 8-1-4 record in Class 5A. Despite a relatively light schedule recently, the team continues to demonstrate potential, with Ryker Dailey and Ethan Medlock scoring a total of 21 goals between them, alongside Daniel Vizcarrondo and Blake Gaucher contributing 14 scores combined.
Wolfson’s position has improved to a tie for sixth with a notable 11-1-2 record in Class 3A. They remain unbeaten in their past six encounters, highlighted by a 1-1 draw with Stanton and a solid 2-0 win over Englewood. Offensively, Wolfson depends on James O’Neal, Grady Lewis, and Raphael Eccher, who have collectively scored 31 goals, allowing them to maintain momentum going into the break.
Sandalwood shares the sixth place with Ponte Vedra, both teams displaying commendable results. Sandalwood boasts a 7-1-1 record in Class 7A, thanks to a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Stanton. Key players include Mohammed Jaber and Simon Castellanos, leading the attack with a cumulative 10 goals. Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra retains their spot in the rankings, despite a 3-0 setback against Clay, supported by earlier wins that secure their standings.
The rankings illustrate the dynamic nature of high school soccer, with teams displaying varying degrees of resilience and skill as they head into the holiday break. As the season progresses, it will be intriguing to observe how these teams adjust their strategies and performances, particularly when play resumes in the new year.
