A missing cat story has taken an unexpected turn as Beans, a ginger and white feline, was found 300 miles away from its home in Scotland. This curious journey started when Beans left its familiar surroundings in Cumbernauld, near Glasgow, only to be discovered weeks later in Coventry, leaving its owners baffled.
Cara and Colin McBurnie, the Scottish couple who own Beans, were initially shocked when they learned of their pet’s unlikely location. Ms. McBurnie remarked, ‘Beans went out as normal because he likes to go for a wander, but he always comes home for some food, usually after a few hours.’ Concerned about his whereabouts, they scoured the local area and expanded their search through numerous lost and found Facebook pages.
Despite their extensive efforts, it wasn’t until weeks later that the McBurnies received an unexpected call from Cats Protection. Thanks to Beans’ microchip, the charity was able to inform them that their beloved pet had been located in Coventry, safe and sound. ‘I was shocked out of my mind that he was still alive, and how he travelled over 300 miles,’ shared Ms. McBurnie.
Meanwhile, in Coventry, Beans had been catching the attention of local resident Kelly Ryan. Initially, she hesitated to feed the wandering cat, suspecting it might belong to someone nearby. However, after noticing Beans’ frequent visits and apparent comfort in her yard, Ms. Ryan decided to post about the mysterious cat online. This action ultimately led to the involvement of Cats Protection, who coordinated the reunion with Beans’ owners.
The mystery of how Beans managed to travel such a distance remains unsolved. Regardless, the McBurnies are relieved to have him back, with Ms. McBurnie expressing gratitude for having their pet microchipped, ‘There’s no way he’d have come back to us otherwise.’
Beans’ adventure serves as a heartwarming reminder of the importance of microchipping pets. While his journey from Scotland to England remains a mystery, his safe return home brings joy and relief to his owners, highlighting the heartwarming connection between pets and their families.
