Transitioning from City Life to Coastal Bliss

After a decade of embracing the vibrancy of Belfast, a city known for its bustling atmosphere and rich cultural scene, one resident found themselves yearning for a change.

Living in Belfast since 2010, I reveled in the lively environment the city had to offer. Working on major industry projects like ‘Game of Thrones,’ I was at the heart of a dynamic and exciting lifestyle. The city was brimming with restaurants, bars, and shops, providing endless opportunities for socializing and entertainment. However, the fast-paced nature of city living, filled with constant buzz and crowded spaces, gradually began to wear on me.

The turning point came in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. The confinement in a small city apartment with limited outdoor space made me question my living situation. Even the simple act of walking outside was met with crowds and long queues, a stark reminder of the ceaseless activity that marked city life. That’s when I began contemplating a move.

In 2021, I made the decision to relocate to Bangor, a coastal town just 25 minutes from Belfast. Having grown up near the beach in Ireland, the ocean had always held a special place in my heart. Upon arriving in Bangor, I was enveloped in a sense of peace and tranquility absent in my city life. The absence of traffic and the presence of lush greenery and open spaces made the transition all the more appealing.

Life in this seaside town allowed me to embrace a slower pace. I installed a hot tub in my garden, started growing my own vegetables, and relished the simple pleasures of daily walks by the beach. The sound of the ocean became my morning symphony, and the friendly encounters with neighbors added to my sense of belonging. Moreover, the proximity to Belfast meant that city attractions were still within reach, if ever I wished to revisit.

The move to Bangor offered not only more space but also a profound sense of happiness. It reaffirmed my belief that stepping away from the hustle and bustle of city life was indeed the right choice, and perhaps one worth considering for anyone feeling overwhelmed by urban living.

While Belfast provided many cherished experiences, the decision to move to a quieter, coastal town has enriched my life with peace and contentment. Those pondering a similar shift might find it equally rewarding.
