I embarked on a journey to transform my outdated bathroom into a modern oasis, using a small inheritance to make it possible. Despite seeking advice from experts, it was not a seamless process due to some unexpected oversights.
One of the primary issues arose with the shower niches. While they provided much-needed storage, they were not angled, leading to water pooling. This lack of attention to detail during installation could pose future risks, such as water damage or mold growth.
Another regret was choosing a light grout color for my Carrara marble floor tiles. While aesthetically pleasing, it quickly darkens due to grime in the high-traffic sink area. In hindsight, selecting a darker grout would have helped maintain a cleaner appearance.
I also faced setbacks with the imported Italian vanity. The plumbing lines installed by my contractor failed to align with the vanity’s specifications. This oversight required an additional $400 expenditure to adjust the vanity drawers, a lesson learned about ensuring precise measurements before installations.
Furthermore, lighting in the vanity area proved inadequate. To cut costs, I opted for a single light fixture, which has since resulted in poor illumination. This error has prompted a costly redesign to add sconces, aiming for better coverage.
Lastly, the custom industrial-style window I ordered was not what I envisioned. The grilles were placed between the glass panes instead of on the exterior, altering the aesthetic and function. Despite this, I’ve adjusted to its benefits, such as ease of cleaning, although it was initially a disappointment.
Renovating my bathroom was a significant investment that taught me valuable lessons. While the end result was visually satisfying, the process highlighted the importance of detailed planning and consideration of every aspect.
