Dog Found Abandoned in Shopping Cart in Miami

In a concerning incident, Miami residents discovered a dog abandoned in a shopping cart along Southwest 10th Street, prompting an ongoing investigation by authorities.

Witnesses reported initially hearing a dog barking, which drew their attention to the abandoned animal. According to Nancy Bolt, one of the local residents, the dog appeared to be growling at everyone who approached it. Another resident, Maritza Zorrilla, described the dog as resembling an English Bulldog and noted that it seemed extremely frightened.

As an experienced dog owner, Bolt took it upon herself to try to comfort the dog. She used water and treats in an effort to calm it down. Despite her attempts, initial calls to animal control and other non-emergency services proved to be ineffective. This led Bolt to escalate the matter by calling 911.

When speaking to the 911 operator, Bolt explained the urgency of the situation, even though it did not involve a human emergency. She also reached out to her friend Paul Lopez, a professional dog trainer, to assist in calming the distressed animal. Lopez noted that while the dog became slightly more approachable, it remained largely defensive and wary of human contact.

After some time, a police officer arrived on the scene. With the officer managing communications, a service truck from animal services eventually arrived to take the dog into custody. The residents expressed a collective wish to help the animal but cited a lack of space as the primary reason they could not take it in themselves. Many of the locals are pet owners and deeply concerned about the dog’s well-being.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the dog’s owner or identify any potential temporary housing solutions through bulldog rescues. The community is hopeful that a suitable home can be found for the dog soon.

The discovery of the abandoned dog in Miami highlights the community’s compassion and willingness to assist animals in distress, despite the challenges faced. Authorities continue to investigate as the community hopes for a positive outcome for the dog.
