A United Airlines flight from Houston to New York was abruptly halted on the runway due to an unexpected engine problem, leading to an immediate evacuation.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, an engine issue was reported on the United Airlines aircraft shortly before takeoff. The incident occurred at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, with the flight intended to travel to New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

The Houston Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, assisting in the deboarding process. Their report confirmed that no injuries were sustained by any of the passengers or crew members. Despite the potentially alarming situation, the evacuation proceeded smoothly, demonstrating the crew’s training and the airport’s emergency preparedness.

A passenger video, circulated by CNN affiliate KRIV, captured the dramatic moment when smoke and flames were visible emerging from the plane’s wing. In the video, a flight attendant instructed the passengers to remain seated, met with protests from some who pointed out the growing fire.

There were 104 passengers and five crew members on board at the time of the evacuation. They utilized emergency slides and stairs to quickly deplane. United Airlines has assured that all affected travelers have been rebooked on a flight scheduled for the afternoon.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of emergency protocols in ensuring passenger safety without any reported injuries. It serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of aviation and the importance of maintaining rigorous safety standards.

While the incident led to disruptions for the passengers, the quick and efficient response by the crew and emergency services ensured everyone’s safety. The re-accommodation of passengers on subsequent flights underscores the airline’s commitment to addressing the unexpected challenges of air travel promptly and professionally.
