In a surprising turn of events, the widely-used social media platform X, known previously as Twitter, experienced a significant outage, affecting thousands of users globally.

Reports emerged this morning indicating that many users could not access their accounts on X. This disruption left them unable to post or view content, with a persistent error message saying, ‘Something went wrong, try reloading.’

According to DownDetector, a website that tracks online service interruptions, more than 9,000 people in the UK reported issues, predominantly with the app. In the US, similar issues were noted by over 22,000 users, affecting app and website access. This outage mainly impacted major cities such as London, Birmingham, New York, and Los Angeles.

Amidst this disruption, users turned to Threads, a competing platform managed by Meta, to voice their frustrations. Comments flooded Threads, with one user stating, ‘Twitter (X) is still not working. I thought it was the WiFi’s problem for a second,’ reflecting widespread discontent and confusion.

The outage’s reach extended beyond the UK and the US, as users from countries like Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and many others reported similar accessibility problems. Most described the app as ‘inaccessible,’ with others citing error notifications and slow performance.

X’s communication during this period has been limited, which has compounded users’ frustrations, as much of the company’s public interactions occur directly on the platform. Meanwhile, speculation about the outage’s cause has led to increased activity on alternative platforms like Threads.

As X continues to grapple with this unexpected outage, its users await a resolution and further communication from the company. This incident underscores the importance of robust network infrastructure and reliable customer engagement methods.
