President Zelensky emphasized that the ceasefire must be reciprocally agreed upon by Moscow. He stated, ‘Ukraine accepts this proposal, and the United States of America must convince Russia to do so.’ The ceasefire will commence once Moscow agrees, with an emphasis on silence in the air and at sea, the release of Ukrainian prisoners, and the return of Ukrainian children from Russia.
Following these discussions, the United States issued a joint statement with Ukraine, lifting the pause on intelligence sharing and resuming security assistance. This move, confirmed by a Ukrainian official, signals renewed support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the responsibility now lies with Russia to take positive steps towards peace. Rubio remarked, ‘We hope that they’ll say yes, that they’ll say yes to peace. The ball is now in their court.’ Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed intent to discuss the proposal with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aiming for further dialogue within the week.
