Unemployment benefit filings in Illinois experienced an uptick last week, marking a rise in new jobless claims, which serve as an indicator of layoffs. Nationally, unemployment claims also saw an increase, climbing to 223,000 from the previous week’s total of 219,000, adjusted for seasonal variations. Tennessee reported the most significant percentage increase in weekly claims, with a notable 95.3% rise. Conversely, Kentucky witnessed the largest percentage decrease, with new claims falling by 56%.
