Following months of investigation, a 35-year-old individual has been apprehended in connection with a fatal incident that occurred in Dania Beach. Authorities have charged Shem Sherrod with second-degree murder and aggravated battery, according to recent jail records. The arrest took place on Wednesday.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has linked Sherrod to the death of 41-year-old Christopher A. Patterson. Patterson’s body was discovered on the morning of November 1, 2024, floating in a canal near the 4500 block of Southwest 43rd Terrace in Dania Beach. Responding to the scene, deputies from BSO’s Dania Beach District, along with the BSO Dive Team, successfully retrieved Patterson’s body from the water.
Subsequent investigations were carried out by BSO homicide detectives who diligently followed up on various leads. Through their efforts, they identified Sherrod as the principal suspect in the case. It has been reported that the homicide took place in proximity to a body of water under a bridge at 4501 S. State Road 7 in Davie. However, the motive behind the killing remains undisclosed, and details regarding the manner of Patterson’s death have not been publicly shared.
As of Friday afternoon, Sherrod is being detained at the Broward County Main Jail without the possibility of bond.
