Last Wednesday, Kim Yo Jong dismissed the U.S. and its Asian allies’ aspirations for North Korean denuclearization, declaring that the country will never abandon its nuclear weapons program. Her statement followed a recent meeting of top diplomats from the U.S., South Korea, and Japan, where they reaffirmed their commitment to press for North Korea’s denuclearization.
The “Day of the Sun,” commemorating Kim Il Sung’s birthday, stands as one of North Korea’s most significant holidays. The regime fosters a state-sponsored personality cult that venerates key members of the ruling Kim dynasty. On Tuesday, North Korea’s leading newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published an editorial urging citizens to unite under Kim Jong Un’s leadership to achieve national prosperity. In recent days, North Korea has held seminars, performances, and other events to honor the founder’s accomplishments.
