A second individual has been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of a bystander who was leaving a bar near Orlando’s Magic Mall. The 29-year-old suspect, Naratha Nameko McKinney, was detained on Tuesday, facing charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a firearm over the death of 46-year-old Joseph U. Phillips. This information was released by the Orlando Police Department.
The incident took place on April 6 at approximately 2:20 a.m. when police responded to reports of gunfire outside the mall on West Colonial Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered Phillips in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. The Orlando Fire Department also attended the scene and declared Phillips deceased.
Authorities reported that Phillips was leaving a bar when a confrontation erupted among a group in the parking lot, which included McKinney. During the altercation, McKinney allegedly brandished a firearm and discharged several rounds into the air. He was identified as a suspect and taken into custody on Tuesday.
Another participant in the incident, 42-year-old Keishawn Anthony Richards, was arrested earlier on April 6, also on a manslaughter charge. According to police, Richards drew a gun during the dispute and attempted to shoot another individual, but his bullet struck Phillips instead. Richards was apprehended at his home by the OPD SWAT team without incident.
