Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed that intelligence reports indicate China is supplying weapons to Russia, including gunpowder and artillery. This information, sourced from Ukraine’s security services and intelligence, suggests a significant development in the ongoing conflict.

While Zelenskyy did not provide extensive details on the nature or extent of Chinese military support, he indicated that Kyiv plans to release comprehensive findings in the coming week. He hinted at the possibility of Chinese involvement in weapon production within Russian territory, a revelation that has caught Kyiv off guard.

During the conflict, Zelenskyy had previously communicated directly with China’s President Xi Jinping, seeking assurances regarding China’s stance. At that time, Xi assured that China was not involved in supplying arms to Russia. However, recent intelligence contradicts these assurances, pointing to a collaboration between China and Russia aimed at bolstering their defense capabilities. Zelenskyy expressed concern over these developments, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Despite China’s public stance of neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, Beijing has consistently provided diplomatic and economic support to Moscow since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This new intelligence raises questions about China’s role and intentions in the ongoing geopolitical landscape.
