New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. faced disciplinary action from Major League Baseball, resulting in a one-game suspension and a fine. The penalties followed his ejection during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays and a subsequent breach of MLB’s social media policy.
The announcement came from MLB’s senior vice president of on-field operations. Chisholm has appealed the decision, which delays the enforcement of the penalties until the appeal process concludes. Despite the ongoing appeal, Chisholm was included in the starting lineup for the second game of the four-game series.
The incident leading to the ejection occurred in the seventh inning when Chisholm disputed a called third strike by the plate umpire, which he believed was a low pitch. This marked his fifth career ejection and the first since joining the Yankees. Following the game, Chisholm posted a message on his social media account expressing his frustration, which included a profanity, and later deleted the post. MLB regulations prohibit the use of electronic devices during games and restrict posting content that questions the impartiality of an umpire.
Reflecting on the incident, Chisholm acknowledged his loss of composure, stating that he needs to maintain better control of his emotions on the field. He expressed regret for his actions and emphasized the importance of staying calm during confrontational moments.
