A tragic shooting unfolded at Florida State University, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries. The incident occurred when a 20-year-old student, armed with a firearm belonging to a deputy from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, initiated the attack on campus. The victims, Roberto Morales and Tiru Chabba, both fathers, were part of the university’s food service sector.
Morales, who worked at FSU, hailed from Miami-Dade County and was the son of the late Ricardo “Monkey” Morales, a Cuban exile and CIA operative. Chabba, aged 45, was employed by Aramark and originated from Greenville, South Carolina, holding an MBA from The Citadel.
The six individuals injured, including Madison Askins, were treated at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. Among those affected was Zeke Rosenthal, a senior from Boca Raton, who recounted the harrowing experience of hiding with classmates, some of whom had survived the Parkland shooting. He noted the alarming security issue of unlocked doors in the building, necessitating makeshift barricades with desks.
The gunman sustained injuries during the apprehension. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving many, including Rosenthal, questioning the senselessness of such violence.
