The search for a missing swimmer at Vancouver’s Wreck Beach has concluded following the discovery of a body in the water near Third Beach. The body appears to match the description of the individual who vanished at the well-known clothing-optional beach, though official confirmation of identity is pending.
The incident began when authorities received a report of a distressed swimmer on Thursday afternoon at the beach located near the University of British Columbia. The man was reportedly heard calling for help and displaying signs of distress while swimming.
Efforts to rescue the swimmer were initially made by a bystander, who unfortunately lost sight of the man after returning to shore to avoid danger from the waters themselves. Despite these initial rescue attempts, the swimmer remained missing.
A comprehensive search operation was launched, involving divers, a hovercraft, and inflatable boats from the Kitsilano Coast Guard station. Despite these efforts, the search was suspended after nightfall but resumed the following day. The renewed search included the use of police dogs, a helicopter, and drones to aid in locating the missing individual.
