Celebrating Volunteers: Mower County 4-H Honors Contributions During National Volunteer Week

Each year, a significant number of volunteers in Minnesota dedicate their time and energy to enhancing their communities. These individuals are among the millions nationwide who will be recognized during National Volunteer Week, from April 20-26. Among the organizations that heavily depend on volunteers is the University of Minnesota Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program.

Throughout National Volunteer Week and the rest of 2025, Minnesota 4-H expresses gratitude for its more than 8,000 volunteers. These volunteers are essential to the success of 4-H programs, significantly impacting the lives of young people. In Mower County alone, 117 volunteers contribute as club leaders, project leaders, committee members, and advisors within the 4-H Youth Development Program.

Research indicates that volunteers in Minnesota’s 4-H programs help youth develop leadership abilities, engage in community service, enhance decision-making skills, and prepare for future careers. The influence of 4-H volunteers extends beyond youth development, strengthening communities, fostering connections, boosting community health, and increasing civic involvement.

The dedication of 4-H volunteers is ongoing, with their efforts daily enriching the programs for Mower County residents. Individuals interested in becoming part of the 4-H volunteer team are encouraged to reach out to the University of Minnesota Extension—Mower County at 507-437-9552, via email at mnext-mower@umn.edu, or visit their website.
