Jamestown Resident Sentenced for Involvement in Boat Accident

A man from Jamestown has been sentenced in connection with a two-boat collision that occurred in September on Spiritwood Lake. The incident involved a 51-year-old individual who pleaded guilty to reckless or negligent operation of a motorboat or vessel, classified as a Class B misdemeanor. The man, identified as Jeffrey Romsdal, was accused of navigating a vessel that collided with an anchored boat on September 14.

The boat that was struck held residents from Jamestown, including Adam Zimney and his family. Following the collision, Zimney reported injuries, including concussions for two individuals, while two others experienced minor injuries.

In Southeast District Court, Judge Daniel Narum sentenced Romsdal to 30 days in the Stutsman County Correctional Center, with the sentence suspended. Additionally, Romsdal was ordered to undertake 40 hours of community service, refrain from possessing or owning firearms for 360 days, participate in the 24-7 Program for 339 days, and abstain from alcohol for 360 days. Furthermore, financial penalties include a $125 criminal administration fee, a $100 defense/facility administration fee, a $1,500 state fine, a $25 victim-witness fee, and a $25 community service supervision fee.

A Class B misdemeanor in this jurisdiction carries a maximum penalty of 30 days imprisonment and a $1,500 fine.
