Pennsylvania Sees Rise in Unemployment Claims Last Week

Unemployment benefit claims in Pennsylvania experienced an uptick last week. The U.S. Department of Labor reported that new jobless claims, often used as an indicator of layoffs, rose to 11,105 for the week ending April 12, compared to 9,337 the previous week.

Across the nation, the overall number of unemployment claims decreased to 215,000, reflecting a reduction of 9,000 claims from the former total of 224,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Among the states, Kentucky recorded the most significant percentage increase in weekly claims, with a surge of 187.3%. In contrast, Tennessee experienced the largest percentage decline in new claims, with a decrease of 47.8%.
